Gottland is an analogue/digital sound lab where experiments are held with analogue electronics. The man in charge of this project is Mechelen-based Koen Vermeulen.
Besides his Gottland project, Koen also takes part in live shows with other musicians.
2013 marked the release of his untitled album on Xtraplex Records. His second official release 'Tangut Tree' EP will be released on February 3rd 2014 on Voxed Recordings.
The 'Tangut Tree' EP is a collection of songs characterized by vocals and instruments that were manipulated using pitch shifting and time stretching techniques. The 'Gottland sound' is defined by creative urge, detail, the use of melody and unordinary samples and instruments. Gottland's songs have 1 main objective: to take you on a trip far beyond reality.
Gottland gets inspired by listening to music, reading literature, enjoying art and by delving into the history. Music wise his main influences are artists such as Aphex Twin, Spinvis, Fuck Buttons, Flying Lotus, The Streets, Beastie Boys, Big Country, Squarepusher, Ben Frost, Burial, Jamie xx, Bon Iver, Memotone, Mount Kimbie, Kate Bush, The Prodigy, Yeasayer, Joy Division, Clams Casino, The Cinematic Orchestra, Kanye West, Moby, …
